Alaric Jackson, a left lineman for the Los Angeles Rams, will miss the first two games of the season due to a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct rules. The team made this announcement on Friday.
The Rams’ season-opening games against Detroit and Arizona will be missed by Jackson, who was placed on an unpaid suspension. In Week 3, when the team plays at home against San Francisco, he can make a comeback.
On the suspension, no other information was provided.
Jackson was deemed “week-to-week” to return after missing time throughout training camp due to an ankle issue. Rob Havenstein, an offensive lineman, had an ankle injury during training camp, one of multiple injuries the Rams’ offensive line has had to cope with.
The most likely candidate to replace Jackson while he’s suspended is Joe Noteboom. Although Noteboom received a three-year, $40 million contract extension to rejoin the Rams in 2022, Jackson ultimately edged him out for the starting left tackle position.
Jackson played left tackle for the Rams last season, starting 15 games as well as a playoff match. Since Andrew Whitworth’s retirement, he has started for Los Angeles at left tackle, however he missed half of the 2022 season due to blood clots in his leg.
Jackson signed his restricted free agency tender for $4.89 million this season and returned to the Rams on a one-year deal. He will become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
