DONE DEAL : Wolves now agree deal to sign talented Chelsea defender on deadline day. Fabrizio Romano revealed

Wolves signed Bastien Meupiyou on Thursday, and now, on deadline day, the club is looking for another promising young defender.

Meupiyou became Wolves’ fourth new player this summer when the club agreed to a £4.2 million agreement with Nantes. It is believed that Meupiyou will be able to get into the first-team squad once he has settled in at the club and gained experience with the under-21s.

Wolves, on the other hand, are not stopping at Meupiyou in terms of’signing talented young centre-backs’, with Fabrizio Romano stating this morning that another transaction is imminent at Molineux.

Wolves agree to sign Chelsea young defender Saheed Olagunju.

Romano claimed today on X that Wolves are close to signing another defensive gem.

Wolves have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign their 17-year-old prospect Shaeed Olagunju.

Romano writes on X: “Excl: Wolves agree to sign 2007-born prospect Saheed Olagunju from Chelsea for the academy. The deal is finalised and will be signed today.”How Good Is Saheed Olagunju at Chelsea?

Olagunju joined Chelsea from Charlton Athletic as an U12. He won his first full-time scholarship during the summer of 2023.

Chelsea describes him as ‘a tall and confident player’ who ‘defends the box effectively and is technically skilled in playing out from the back while also demonstrating good leadership skills’ on their official website.

Last season, he appeared 13 times for Chelsea’s U18s, scoring one. He also scored in the U17 Premier League Cup, which Chelsea eventually won. Olagunju has previously expressed his enthusiasm for defending, saying that ‘A goal-saving tackle is similar to scoring from 40 yards out’. He also admires ‘unbelievable’ Sergio Ramos and Antonio Rudiger (via chelseafc.com).

Wolves are also poised to sign Ethan Sutherland from St Mirren to expand their academy.

Wolves committed to signing youthful talent.

Wolves are likely to reinforce their academy today with the acquisition of Olagunju, with Sutherland also expected to join.

This demonstrates Wolves’ dedication to their academy and their desire to bring in young players who have the ability to become the first squad.

Wolves’ current strategy is to sign young players with high ceilings, develop them, and then sell them for a lot of money in the future.

Olagunju appears to be a promising talent who genuinely enjoys the sport of defence, which is encouraging.

If he’s spent a lot of time watching the likes of Ramos and Rudiger, ideally he’ll aim to play in a very similar manner to Those men.
