Modou Faal’s first words after completing Wrexham transfer as ‘unbelievable’ claim made

Wrexham have completed the deadline-day signing of West Bromwich Albion forward Modou Faal.

After word leaked yesterday that Modou Faal was undergoing his medical at Wrexham, the 21-year-old has completed a three-year move to the Racecourse Ground. Standing at 6 feet 4, Faal is the striker signing Phil Parkinson has been looking for, as the 56-year-old seeks a long-term partner for goal machine Paul Mullin.

The young Gambian striker joined West Brom from Sutton Coldfield in 2019, and while he has only made one senior appearance for the Baggies, he has impressed while on loan.

Last season, he spent two spells in League Two with Doncaster Rovers and Walsall, scoring 15 goals.

Faal told Wrexham’s official website after completing the move: “I’ve had a smile on my face since I arrived. I’m thrilled to be here and can’t wait to get started.Modou Faal's first words after completing Wrexham transfer as 'unbelievable' claim made - The Wrexham Insider

“I think everyone in the football world now knows just how big of a Club this is, and where it wants to be.”Since I learnt about the initiative that has been going on here, it has been on an upward trend. Since hearing about everything and speaking

“I scored my first professional goal here, and when I arrived, it was an incredible location to play. The crowd are great; every seat was occupied. The atmosphere was rumbling, and the stadium was simply buzzing; to finally be a part of that is incredible.”

Landing the highly-rated striker from a Championship club is a fantastic piece of business, but it could spell bad news for other Wrexham players.Faal is the long-term substitute for Ollie Palmer and Steven Fletcher.

There are many winners and losers in the Wrexham squad as a result of Faal’s transfer, but those who will suffer the most are the strikers.

Parkinson has stated unequivocally that he wants a tall and strong forward to play with Mullin, someone who will unselfishly hold up the ball and make runs in behind.

Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer excelled in that capacity last season and have continued to succeed in the third tier, with both players scoring.

However, their long-term prospects are now in risk. Fletcher will most certainly announce his retirement next summer, while Palmer’s contract with the Racecourse expires in 2025.

Faal, meanwhile, is a long-term solution for the ageing tandem, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds continuing to bolster the roster with younger players.
