Breaking News: Chicago Bears name one of their key players as one of eight team captains ahead of the No. 1 pick’s first game.

Caleb Williams has wowed the Chicago Bears with his on-field abilities and charming attitude. As a result, the top overall draft pick will begin his rookie season as one of the team’s captains.

The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner from Southern California was named one of eight captains by his teammates, the Bears revealed Monday.

“He went out there and proved himself, took command of the offence,” receiver DJ Moore said. “He began opening up. People say that, and we’re rocking alongside him.”

The Bears are counting on Williams to help lead the club to victory and fortify a position that has traditionally been poor for Chicago. The first challenge will be the opener against Tennessee on Sunday at Soldier Field. Since the 2006 Super Bowl season, Chicago has made just three postseason appearances.

Williams’ addition is a major reason why the Bears are aiming higher after a combined 10-24 record in their first two seasons under general manager Ryan Poles and coach Matt Eberflus.

The Bears moved previous quarterback Justin Fields to Pittsburgh and gave Williams the starting job after he impressed at Oklahoma and USC. In college, he threw 93 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, including 72 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions in two seasons with the Trojans.

Williams, who grew up in Washington, D.C. and starred in Hollywood, has won over Chicago fans since his pick. He’s even introduced a new stance to followers, forming a claw with his palm and snarling like a bear whenever the camera is pointed at him in public.
