JUST IN : What Bowling Green’s head coach said about Penn State ahead of matchup at Beaver Stadium.

Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler held a press conference Monday ahead of his Falcons’ matchup against Penn State in Beaver Stadium Saturday at noon. Here’s what Loeffler, who played quarterback at Michigan from 1993 to 1996 and was on the Wolverines’ staff from 1996 to 1999 and from 2002 to 2007, had to say about the Nittany Lions. On the program in general, “Going to Happy Valley, been there many times. I think Coach Franklin and his staff has done an unbelievable job. You’ve done an incredible job.

And I believe he has done an excellent job of recruiting, building the club, and coaching it. In my opinion, they will contend for the Big Ten Championship. I believe that is the calibre of team we will face this weekend. Comparing Beaver Stadium to Michigan Stadium, where Bowling Green will play in 2023 “I think both places are great to play at. I guess this is my sixth or ninth visit to Happy Valley. I think the student section is awesome. Football is prominent at both Penn State and Ann Arbour. It’s one of the country’s top five special places, and the people do an incredible job of supporting their teams. And exactly like I responded, “This team reminds me a lot of the Michigan team from last year.” I think they are quite talented. I believe they have everything it takes to win, and I’m really impressed and not surprised that Coach Franklin has done such an excellent job of assembling such a strong squad.” On playing in challenging environments: “We’ve played in some really wonderful places, like Tennessee, the Big House, and now Happy Valley. It presents a significant issue. Communication presents numerous challenges. We need to be on point. We had to know exactly what to do because it was difficult to hear. It’s a noisy environment; the student section will be rocking and rolling. There will be There are an astounding number of individuals when you are just warming up. I recall usually taking the quarterbacks out to warm up there, and the entire student section would be crowded anytime we were the first ones out. So it’s important there; they do an excellent job of supporting their team. Regarding Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen “Yes, I have a lot of respect for Coach Allen. Some of the people that played for me had previously served as their coordinators, including Tom’s. And I think he does an excellent job in all aspects. They are basically sound. Their scheme is excellent. Their gap integrity is off the charts. In addition, they have some really good players. I’m talking about incredibly good players.

Of course, I’m really thrilled with the front. The front seven is ridiculous. Number 11 (Abdul Carter) is another of the best defensive ends who will be draughted in the first round. He was draughted in the first round, and I believe he will be their back end. That’s where I believe they vary significantly from when I played against them in the Big Ten. I believe their secondary is turned off. I believe they can all run. They’re long, physical, and I imagine Coach Allen is having a great time teaching this group because they’re so talented.” On prepping for Penn State. “Yes, it is a little bit of a difficulty for us on offence, because Coach Allen hasn’t

I’ve called [the defence] in a while. So you’re digging up old footage from when he did call it. You’re definitely placing a high value on the footage from this Saturday’s game against West Virginia. Offensively, we’re familiar with the offensive coordinator from his time at Buffalo and then Kansas. We watch Kansas’ tape all the time. Offensively, I believe Penn State does an excellent job with a variety of personnel groups similar to ours. There are plays that build on each other, which is extremely similar to how we work. They’re trying to set up plays based on the type of sets.

Formations, run schemes, and resulting play actions all come together. I think he does an excellent job. And, like the defence, I believe the offensive line is really good. I worked with a guy that coaches the offensive line, and I think he does an excellent job, along with Frank Leonard. The quarterback, in my opinion, is exceptional, as are the backs. So it’s an excellent formula. It’s difficult to beat a team that has a good offensive line, can run the ball, and plays great defence.
