BREAKING NEWS : Michael Jordan once ‘lost $500 million’ in three seconds during NBA draft lottery

Jordan did not have the best three seconds of his life. Michael Jordan effectively lost $500 million in three seconds at last year’s NBA Draft.

Jordan’s team, the Charlotte Hornets, entered the draft lottery and received the second pick.

The draft features 30 clubs from throughout North America, with picks ranging from former professional players in other global leagues to new players who have never played in the NBA.

To be eligible, players must have been out of high school for a year and be at least 19 years old.

Last year’s top draft prospect was France’s Victor Wembanyama, who is 7ft 4in and is now the joint-tallest active NBA player.

He guided France to the silver medal in the men’s basketball tournament in Paris 2024, although the team lost to the United States in the final.Michael Jordan once 'lost $500 million' in three seconds during NBA draft lottery

He was selected by the San Antonio Spurs last year, with Jordan’s Hornets missing out on him by one pick.

According to ESPN, Wembanyama is worth $500 million to any NBA organisation, thus the Hornets’ failure to secure their top goal, as well as that of every other team, was a stinging blow.

Speaking about the Frenchman back in February, basketball legend LeBron James remarked

He said, “He does not have a ceiling. He can accomplish whatever he wants with his profession.

“It appears he enjoys the game. From the outside, it appears that he works hard.

“I mentioned a long time ago how amazing he was, and it’s really that easy.

“He has a terrific coach [Gregg Popovich] who will make sure he does things right and plays the game correctly.

“He’s already special, but he’s going to continue to get better and better and better each and every game.”

Despite their excellent choice in the 2023 NBA Draft, the Spurs had a disastrous season.

They dropped 18 straight games from November to December, the longest losing streak in franchise history, and finished 14th in the Western Conference at the end of the season.
