We’re So Proud Of You – Charlton Athletics Celebrates Key Player’s Ballon d’Or Award Nomination

Charlton Athletic, an English League One team, congratulated academy graduate Ademola Lookman on his 2024 Ballon d’Or award candidacy.

Lookman was included in the 30-man nominee announced on Wednesday by the award’s organisers, France Football.

The Nigerian international will compete for the accolade alongside Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Junior, Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Nico Williams, among others. In response to Lookman’s nomination, Charlton stated on their X handle: “Academy graduate Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the 2024 @BallondOr!”

Lookman was Atalanta’s most impressive player last season, helping them reach the Europa League and Coppa Italia finals. After losing 1-0 to Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final. Lookman scored three goals for Atalanta, becoming the first player to do so in the competition’s history. His goal-scoring record for Charlton’s U18 and U21 teams propelled him quickly through the Charlton academy ranks, and he earned his first-team debut on November 3, 2015. He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on December 5, 2015, and then scored both Charlton goals in a 2-2 tie with Bolton Wanderers ten days later. He signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton on January 5, 2017, and made his debut ten days later in a 4-0 win over Manchester City, replacing Ross Barkley in the 90th minute and scoring the team’s fourth goal. Lookman has played for clubs like as Fulham, RB Leipzig, and Leicester City.
