JUST IN : Reiss Nelson explains why he chose Fulham loan over other offers

Reiss Nelson, 24, joined Fulham on a season-long loan after being convinced by manager Marco Silva to be a part of his project for the 2024–25 season. Nelson is an Arsenal academy graduate who spoke out about his transfer deadline day move, calling it an opportunity he “couldn’t turn down.”

Just before the transfer deadline, Reiss Nelson moved to Craven Cottage. He talked about the uncertainty of the move and how important his family was to the process.

“Deadline day was a lot of waiting around,” he stated in an interview with FFCtv. Because my brother lives right around the block from me and serves as my agent, things were a little simpler.

“My whole family was present at his place, where I was simply waiting. We didn’t really know what was going on, so it was kind of up and down, but ultimately, I believe I made the correct choice.

Nelson decided to transfer after speaking with Fulham’s manager, who convinced him of the team’s goals and playing philosophy.

“I talked to the boss, and he gave me his blessing on the project.” I had no choice but to accept it. The boss prefers to take the back seat. He is fond of inverted wingers who can link up with the striker and play with either foot. That, in my opinion, goes well with where I want to play.

The 24-year-old has experienced loan stints before, having played for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.

But this current move comes at a critical juncture in his career as he looks to play football regularly for the first squad.

Since there is no buyout option in the loan arrangement, Nelson will return to Arsenal on July 1, 2025.
Nelson acknowledged the competition at Fulham but stated his excitement about contributing to the club’s success.

He declared, “The goals are really high.” Every club aspires to have outstanding players at every position, and I believe we have that. It’s something we can prosper from. All we want is to play offensive football at any of the sites, be able to play well, and

not be afraid of the top teams, and show what we can do.

“I think that will be really exciting for the fans.”

Following a tumultuous transfer deadline day where several clubs expressed interest in Nelson, Nelson made the late decision to join Fulham.

Although it seemed like Ipswich Town was in the lead to sign him, the agreement brokered at the last minute.

Fulham made the most of the situation by announcing the move at 1:30 am BST and submitting a transaction sheet shortly before the 11pm deadline.
The winger’s recruitment thrilled Fulham co-owner Tony Khan, who said, “I’m very glad to welcome Reiss Nelson to Fulham Football Club! We’re thrilled that Reiss, a gifted young player, has joined the team on loan. With his arrival, the club’s hectic transfer window comes to an end, and we can all look forward to an amazing season.

The late decision by Arsenal to get Raheem Sterling on loan from Chelsea perhaps helped with the loan transfer because it expanded their attacking options and gave Nelson more opportunities to play regularly elsewhere.

After the international break, Nelson will be making his debut at Craven Cottage, where he will be looking to impress alongside former Arsenal stars Emile Smith Rowe, Alex Iwobi, and Bernd Leno.

Nelson gets the chance to demonstrate the player we all know is there with regular playing time in the Premier League at Fulham.
