BREAKING NEWS : 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey Explains Why He Didn’t Play Against the Jets

SANTA CLARA Enquiries concerning Christian McCaffrey’s Achilles tendonitis were made on Wednesday in the 49ers dressing room. These are his words.

When did you think you wouldn’t be able to participate in the game versus the Jets?

M:cCAFFREY “Just a little bit of moving around on Monday morning. Every week, I get ready to play. Every week, I have the desire to play. There have been weeks when I haven’t even felt well enough to complete the walk-through, but when I wake up, my body has a lot of amazing things it can accomplish. I’m always mentally ready to participate in the game. However, it was an extremely difficult group decision. I detest not being able to play. I see it as a

a move in chess that we should be able to use for the remainder of the season.”

Is there any chance that it’s related to the calf issue at the conclusion of last season?

McCAFFREY: “No, it has nothing to do with anything from the previous season. I’m just coping with it, and things will get better.”

Q: Did you feel unwell on any days during practice last week, or did you feel worse than usual?

McCAFFREY: “When you’re working through some issues and something feels off, there’s a difference between you don’t feel right in practice and maybe by Sunday you’ll be fine to go. I’m mentally ready to play at all times. I’m going to play no matter what.

Do you anticipate that this week’s procedure will be similar?

McCAFFREY: “This week, I’m playing, that’s my mindset. That’s my current state. Every week, I am like that. I’m not making this up. It is not a good idea for a player to enter a week of uncertainty by saying, “Maybe I’ll play, maybe I won’t.” I’m prepared to leave.”

Will there be a problem with the artificial turf?

McCAFFREY: “Not at all. You cannot run on grass if you are unable to run on turf. You’re free to leave if you can.”
