“Runs teams ragged” – Major Rotherham United deal tipped to pay dividends

Rotherham United battled in the Championship last season and appeared set for relegation from the start.

The Millers spent only four game weeks out of the relegation zone, all within the first seven matches of the season, before finishing 24th in the remaining 25 games of 2023/24.

After staying in the Championship the previous year, hopes were high for an even more successful season, but poor recruitment and a lack of financial resources prevented the Yorkshire club from competing with the rest of the division.

Rotherham were officially demoted on April 5 after a 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle. That defeat also marked the 21st game of record signing Sam Nombe’s goal drought since joining from Exeter City.

For £1 million in the summer of 2023. Nombe’s terrible debut season has concerned fans.
Although he excelled in his final year in Devon, his debut season at the New York Stadium has raised concerns among supporters that he will never live up to his transfer value.

Last season, the former MK Dons attacker scored three goals and provided three assists in the Championship. The Millers struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only 37 goals in 46 games.

Tom Eyre, the Rotherham Fan Pundit for FLW, believes Nombe can finally get going after a difficult year and believes he will prove his worth.

“He’s up for interpretation,” he remarked. “I truly believe he’s getting there. I believe he is approaching the point where he is worth his transfer fee. However, I would not consider him to be worth £1 million right now. He had a challenging championship season. He didn’t get many chances or opportunities to demonstrate what he was about.

“However, compared to this season, he appears to run teams ragged. So it’s just a matter of time before that transfer cost seems justified. I’d say he’s not worth his fee right now, but wait until the end of the season and we’ll do another review.”Runs teams ragged" - £1m Sam Nombe Rotherham United deal tipped to pay off

Nombe’s lack of goals continues, although his performances are improving.
Despite returning to the division where he scored 15 goals in his last stay, Nombe has failed to score for Rotherham this season in division One.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old’s overall play has improved significantly, and he is a more active member of the squad than he was during his first year with the club.

He already has an xG of 2.28, compared to 3.42 from 41 games last season. He will eventually reach the back of the net, but for the time being, it appears that his lack of scoring is due to a lack of confidence.

Once Nombe starts firing, there may be no stopping him, and he may finally be able to recoup his £1 million cost, which was paid just over a year ago.
