Junior Firpo is willing to sign a new contract and stay longer at Leeds United, according to TEAMtalk. However, if the playmaker decides to leave Elland Road as a free agent, he already knows where he wants to play.
In the summer of 2021, the international player from the Dominican Republic transferred to Leeds for £12.9 million (€15 million / $16.8 million), with Barcelona receiving a 25% cut of any future contract. At the time, he signed a four-year contract, which is presently set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.
However, despite his early struggles in West Yorkshire, particularly during the team’s 2022–2023 Premier League relegation season, Firpo has flourished under Daniel Farke’s leadership and has shown to be one of the team’s most reliable players throughout the year.
Now, we can exclusively disclose that Firpo has approved Leeds’ request for an extension of his current contract. However, he needs to know the goals and objectives of the team before committing to anything.
However, we can vouch for the fact that Firpo is content in England, particularly in West Yorkshire, where he resides with his small family.
But a lot will rely on Leeds’ goals and how the team performs in the first few months of the new campaign, as well as whether the team appears capable of launching another promotion push.
Future plans for Junior Firpo: where might the player go next?
Real Betis, one of Firpo’s old teams, has been heavily linked to him returning in recent times. The Andalusian team was interested in signing him both this summer and the year before.
Between 2017 and 2019, he played 43 games for Los Verdiblancos before securing a transfer to the Nou Camp, where he spent two seasons as a colleague of the legendary Lionel Messi before leaving for Leeds.
Firpo would therefore be more inclined to move back to Spain if he were to leave Leeds, and if the two sides are unable to reach an agreement over an extension at Elland Road, a move to LaLiga cannot be completely ruled out.
However, the player will wait to make any decisions over his future for a few weeks as he assesses how his first half of the Leeds season goes.
But after returning from injury at the beginning of the season, the player has flourished, recording 11 assists for both club and country this year.

The 28-year-old was utilized in an unconventional striker role for the Caribbean country, having lately pledged his international future to the Dominican Republic.
Although Leeds acquired competition and cover on transfer deadline day in the shape of Swiss star Isaac Schmidt for a possible fee of £4.5 million (€5.3 million / $5.9 million), Firpo is regarded as a first-choice player at Leeds, so it will be surprising if Farke willingly moves him out of the starting lineup anytime soon.
