Kansas City Royals Shortstop Hits Another Major Milestone en Route to Baseball History

Superstar Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals is hitting a home run in the top of the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Having hit his 31st home run of the season, he now has 100 RBI. After Salvador Perez, he is the second Royal to reach the 100-RBI milestone.

Furthermore, Witt Jr. is on his way to making some amazing baseball history now that he has reached the century mark.

According to social media user @JayHayKid of the “Baseball is Dead” podcast:

Along with Alex Rodriguez in 1996, Bobby Witt Jr. would only be the second shortstop in MLB history to win the batting title in a season with 30 or more home runs and 100 or more RBI.

Witt Jr. leads the American League in hitting as of this writing, with a.333 average for the season. Next with a.321 is Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Witt Jr. has continued to develop, and in 2024 he has helped the Royals go from a 56-106 record in 2023 to a (very probable) playoff team. If neither player completely collapses, he will finish 1-2 with Judge in the American League MVP vote. He was selected for the All-Star Game.

Witt Jr., who is 24 years old, has a.982 OPS and is already among the league’s finest players.

On Saturday, the Royals led the game 81-67 and held the only wild card.
