BREAKING NEWS : Former Maverick Star heads overseas to continue his career

Fan favorite Boban Marjanovicis leaving the NBA and joining Fenerbahçe Beko of the Euro League, bringing an end (at least for now) to a nine year NBA career.

Marjanovic entered the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2015-2016 season. His 54 games played that year were the second most games he logged in any given season during his NBA tenure (he tallied 58 between two teams in the 2018-2019 season), but despite relatively limited playing time, he won fans over everywhere he went. With stints on the Spurs, Detroit PistonsLos Angeles ClippersPhiladelphia 76ersDallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, Marjanovic was as well travelled as he was well loved by both fans and teammates.

Perhaps his most well-known buddy pairing was with Tobias Harris. The two met during their time with the Pistons, and though their relationship got off to a rocky start, they quickly became close friends. In a perfect example of truth being stranger than fiction, the two were traded together not once, but twice! The first time the pair was moved as a package was from the Pistons to the Clippers. Here they seemed to really hit the mainstream as a fun-loving duo set to take over the hearts of NBA fans everywhere. From the Clippers, they were later sent together to the 76ersGoldfish snack crackers would never be looked at the same after the pair featured in a series of TV commercials which ran nationwide

despite being strongly associated with the Clippers, Marjanovic actually spent more time with the Mavericks than any other team. There he again formed a close bond, this time with none other than Luka Doncic. Marjanovic had plenty of memorable moments with the Mavs, but perhaps his most memorable came on a night that is more noteworthy for being the final night of the NBA season before play was temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 11, 2020, Marjanovic quite simply played out of his mind. In just over 31 minutes of play, he put up a stat line of 31 points, 17 rebounds (9 offensive) and 2 steals in a Mavericks win over the Denver Nuggets.

Marjanovic leaves the NBA with career averages of 5.5 PPG and 3.6 RPG, while shooting 57.8% from the field. If fan approval rating was an actual stat, he would surely sit at a perfect 100%. Check back often with Mavs Moneyball where we’ll have you covered all season long.
