Mystics Make Big Announcement for Game Against Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever

On Thursday, Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark will play the final regular-season game of her historic WNBA debut season. The Fever will face the Washington Mystics in the regular season finale, with very different stakes for both teams. Indiana, having already clinched the sixth seed, will aim on keeping healthy in its final regular-season game. The stakes are significantly higher for the Mystics, who must a win to keep their postseason chances alive. The eighth and final WNBA playoff spot will be awarded to one of the Mystics (13-26), Chicago Sky (13-26), or Atlanta Dream (14-25).Caitlin Clark is looking forward to some time off after a record-setting night | AP News

The Mystics revealed ahead of this key game against Indiana that rookie forward Aaliyah Edwards has been ruled out with a right ankle injury sustained on September 13 against Atlanta. This injury will miss Edwards the last three regular season games of her first season.Entering the final game of the WNBA season, Edwards is seventh among rookies in scoring, fourth in rebounding, and third in blocks. With a good case for All-Rookie honors, Edwards had a solid season after being taken sixth overall in the 2024 WNBA draft. While they play different positions, it would have been entertaining to watch Clark and Edwards compete as rookies. However, Washington fans will still get to see Indiana’s standout rookie.

Indiana issued a clean injury report following Wednesday’s practice, meaning no players will be rested in the regular season finale. It’ll be fascinating to see if Clark and the starters play their customary minutes now that Indiana has nothing to play for. Washington and Indiana will face off at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday.
