An Iowa Hawkeyes star is finally starting to receive the recognition he deserves.
The Iowa Hawkeyes have struggled this season. As they prepare to begin Big Ten play this weekend, there are serious concerns.
Of course, they lost to Iowa State and wasted a major opportunity. They also battled a little last weekend in their victory over Troy.
While there are many doubts about the squad, none of them have to do with standout running back Kaleb Johnson.
In reality, Johnson is finally receiving some of the attention he deserves. He’s emerging as a potential sleeper in the 2025 NFL Draft.
ESPN NFL Draft analyst Jordan Reid
took some time to discuss Johnson. “There are few running backs who have performed better in the first three games of the season than Johnson, who has ran for 479 yards and six touchdowns. He is a quick, decisive runner who can sprint through lanes. Johnson, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 225 pounds, has a solid physique that allows him to accept and run through contact. He can run from several platforms and fit into different blocking tactics in the professionals.”
Johnson has put up impressive numbers in three games this season. He has rushed the ball 61 times, for 479 yards and six touchdowns. Johnson has been the Iowa offense’s only consistent performer.
Johnson clearly has NFL potential. He’ll end up being a steal for whoever takes him, providing he doesn’t gain more popularity.
All that being stated, Johnson’s performance over the remainder of the 2024 college football season will be interesting to watch. If he can continue to play as well as he has in the more competitive section of the season, he will be drafted.
Expect to hear more and more about the Hawkeyes’ top running back as the season progresses. Johnson has demonstrated the capacity to be a big-time playmaker, and he does not appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
