Two men confirmed death. Go-kart driver injured in Swindon ‘car meet’ crash.

A go-kart driver sustained possibly life-altering brain injuries in a crash on a Swindon industrial park. Paramedics responded to Newcombe Drive on Hawksworth Industrial Estate shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday night during a suspected car meet.

The medical service then contacted Wiltshire Police, who stopped the route for the remainder of the night and all of Monday morning.

A petrol-powered go-kart veered off the road and collided with a bollard.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson stated that the motorist, a man in his twenties, suffered significant, perhaps life-changing head injuries and was rushed to hospital.

A representative for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance confirmed that the air ambulance was dispatched to an incident in Swindon on Sunday, September 15.

“The Critical Care Team consisting of one doctor and a specialist paramedic provided medical treatment to a patient before flying them to University Hospital Southampton.”
The accident is believed to have occurred at a car meet.

Last October, several people were hurt when a car doing donuts in the same industrial park lost control and collided with a crowd of spectators.

Wiltshire Police initiated Operation Staysail in 2022 to combat poor behaviour at major motor enthusiast gatherings following repeated reports of speeding, noise disturbance, and disruptive behaviour.

In May, an organiser of vehicle meets around the county told the Adver that they provide a positive alternative to more hazardous gang, drug, or knife crime, but that greater police presence was putting these events at risk.

A Wiltshire Police spokeswoman previously stated that illegal car meets annoy and frustrate communities and residents, as well as endanger persons engaging in such gatherings, other road users, and members of the public.

“This is not a question of officers ‘spoiling the fun’, but rather the police taking robust action to prevent harm, and even serious injury or worse.”
