Nathan Jones, Charlton’s manager, accepted responsibility for his team’s dismal first-half performance against Blackpool despite making changes.
Rarmani Edmunds-Green, Daniel Kanu, and Allan Campbell all made their first league starts of the season, with Luke Berry and Tyreece Campbell sliding to the bench. Alex Mitchell was left out of the squad entirely, with the manager stating this as a tactical choice.
Jones made a replacement in the first half, bringing Tyreece Campbell off the bench to replace Thierry Small just after Blackpool went two goals ahead.
Jones agreed, “We needed to change shape [at 2-0].” I had to consider what I needed in the game. We were passive.
“I replaced one or two staff today because of specific
things. Luke Berry has been suffering. I wanted to play a little bit more aggressively, so I brought in Rarmani. It is my fault for changing the team.”It’s purely tactical [to drop Mitchell]. I’ve made a decision. Whether right or wrong, we weren’t ourselves. It wasn’t just one place; we were wrong by a mile in the first half.
“I’ll look at those decisions and adjust from there as there’s a lot of frustration around the game today.”
