The Miami Dolphins will most certainly need a quarterback after Tua Tagovailoa sustained a concussion against the Buffalo Bills, with some speculating that a familiar face could return to lead the team.
Tagovailoa was injured during a third-quarter run in Thursday’s 31-10 loss, when he scrambled for a first down before flying forward and colliding with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa fell hard to the turf and was treated by the team’s medical personnel before being transported to the locker room.
The Dolphins quarterback was diagnosed with his third concussion in his NFL career. With the possibility that Tagovailoa may lose extensive time, former Dolphins starter Ryan Tannehill has been suggested as a prominent candidate.
Tannehill remains a free agent following the expiration of his four-year, $118 million contract with the Tennessee Titans. If the Dolphins were to look for a quarterback, many predicted Tannehill would be the first call.
“Ryan Tannehill is the best free agent quarterback available,” wrote reporter Andrew Siciliano on X immediately after Tagovailoa’s injury.
“There is nothing I’d like to see more than Ryan Tannehill return to the Dolphins without Adam Gase and make a run to the playoffs,” X said. The Dolphins could potentially stick with Skylar Thompson, who finished Thursday’s game in place of the injured Tagovailoa. Thompson also started two games in 2022 while Tagovailoa was sidelined with a concussion.
