Lowe provided insight into how the league perceives one of the Jazz’s older players and how much trade value he brings to the market. In what appears to be another rebuilding year for the Utah Jazz, the value of their veterans on the trade market is critical to both current and future roster structure. Unfortunately, one of the Jazz’s veterans may not be that valuable to the rest of the NBA right now.
On September 18th, Zach Lowe stated on The Lowe Post Podcast that John Collins had no trade value to the rest of the association. So much so that the Jazz would have to pay to remove him from their books.
“He has no trade value right now,” Lowe explained.
“You’d have to pay a draft pick I think to get somebody to take this contract.” Collins appears to be an apparent trade option for the Jazz, so this is not good news and could explain why we haven’t seen or heard anything about trade talks in recent months. Giving up picks is not something the Jazz will want to do, so unless Collins plays well and earns trade value this season, he may stay with the organization until his deal expires.
Would it be that horrible to keep Collins?
While the Jazz are attempting to amass as many draft picks as possible, keeping Collins could be a viable option for the Jazz tank. Collins’ deal is a little big for
the type of performance he has brought to Utah, but it helps the team stay above the minimum wage standards.
Collins’ trade value is low due to his mediocre performance for the amount of his deal, but the Jazz may be quite satisfied with an average performance on their squad. Their draft pick is the most important asset they have, and the more losses and bad performances they acquire, the better the lottery.
Collins also offers a seasoned presence to the locker room, which will help the Jazz’s several rookies grow and evolve. He also has experience in the conference finals, so the lessons he can pass on could be a tremendous help to the youth. Members of the team. Collins may not be the Jazz’s long-term roster solution, but even if he lacks trade value, he may add value to the team in a variety of ways over the next several years. Plus, the Jazz’s calendar allows them to easily swallow the last two years of his contract.
