EAGAN, Minnesota — On Wednesday, the Vikings signed running back Myles Gaskin to their 53-man roster and placed tight end Nick Muse on injured reserve.
According to Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell, Muse has been placed on short-term IR, with the chance of rejoining him this season after at least four weeks.
“I want to just highlight Nick Muse had a slight fracture in his hand during the football game and will… He could play, but it would need him to wear a big old cast on his hand and have that thing wrapped, so Nick’s value as a blocker and a pass receiver for us on game day, we decided it was best to let that thing to heal over the following
“Three to four weeks,” O’Connell remarked during his media appearance Wednesday. “He was placed on short-term IR, allowing us to add Myles Gaskin as our third [running] back to the roster. And then I’ll keep you guys updated on the tight end plan of attack as the week progresses.” Gaskin has been on Minnesota’s practice squad and was promoted for the first two Vikings games in 2024.
He has played two offensive snaps, rushing once for -3 yards, and nine special teams snaps this season, but has yet to return a kickoff. Gaskin has started 17 of his 43 games.
Aaron Jones, Sr., was assessed Sunday and returned to the Vikings.
Ty Chandler and fullback C.J. Ham are in their backfield. Muse, a 2022 seventh-round pick, appeared in both of Minnesota’s first two games. He has participated on three offensive plays and 19 special teams plays, including a clean catch on San Francisco’s onside kick attempt in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 23-17 victory.
When asked about Muse’s decision to play despite his hand injury, O’Connell replied, “File that under situational master/play style.”
