Preston North End striker Milutin Osmajic may miss Saturday’s encounter at Millwall after the FA confirmed it was aware of claims of a biting incident in last weekend’s game against Blackburn Rovers.
Rovers youngster Owen Beck was sent off late in the game at Deepdale, although he claimed Osmajic bit him on the upper back.
On Monday, the FA said that they were “aware of this incident and will be looking into it”.
Osmajic, 25, had been yellow carded for his role in the melee that erupted after Beck kicked North End’s Duane Holmes.
Preston will be without midfielder Sam Greenwood, who was dismissed in the first half of the same game.
North End manager Paul Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Lancashire: “All I can say is, there’s no place for that [biting], and we know you can’t do it. Mistimed tackles and other incidents are unavoidable in the game; you accept them.
“Anything that’s not, we know how to deal with. But I haven’t seen anything, so I’m simply believing [the media] that there’s an incident.”
Blackburn manager John Eustace told BBC Lancashire: “Owen has a massive bite mark on the back of his neck, which the referee didn’t see.
“It’s a really serious situation; nobody loves being bitten.
“Everyone is outraged about it. It is not a pleasant condition to be in. I’m confident the correct individuals will see
“We’ll take it from there.”
In September 2023, Osmajic transferred to Preston from Spanish club Cadiz for a club record price.
