Wolves defender to miss rest of the season with serious knee injury

Mosquera was stretchered off during Wolves’ 3-1 defeat to rivals Aston Villa. Yerson Mosquera, a Wolves defender, will miss the rest of the season due to a major knee injury.

The Colombian was stretchered off during Wolves’ 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday after twisting his knee in a clash with Morgan Rodgers.

Mosquera, 23, has since undergone scans that have shown the depth of the injury, with the club’s head of high performance Phil Hayward stating that it is “unlikely” he will play again this season.

“Timescales are difficult to state prior to surgery but it is highly unlikely he will feature again this season.” Mosquera has started all five Premier League games for Wolves this season, having spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Villarreal.

The defeat adds to the difficulties of under-pressure manager Gary O’Neil, who has only one point in five league games, leaving them at the bottom of the Premier League table. Wolves were already depleted in defense, having failed to replace centre-back Max Kilman after his £40 million transfer to West Ham in the summer.
