DONE DEAL : Wolves has secured the signing of Republic of Ireland youth international

Wolves Academy has secured the signing of Republic of Ireland youth international Luke O’Donnell.

The 17-year-old midfielder comes from Derry City and signed a professional contract with the Old Gold.

O’Donnell made his senior debut for Derry in November 2023, aged 16, and signed a professional contract with the Candy Stripes in February of this year.

O’Donnell, a former Cockhill Celtic kid, has international experience with Ireland’s under-17s, having competed in the European Qualifiers last season.

Jon Hunter-Barrett, academy manager for football, is pleased to have secured the signature of a player the club has been keeping an eye on for some time, saying: “Luke’s a boy we tried to sign a year ago, so it’s been a real challenge for us but, most importantly, for Luke and his family to wait this long before officially signing for us.Wolves complete O'Donnell signing | Academy | News | Wolverhampton  Wanderers FC

“He’s another flexible player who can play as a six, eight, or even a centre defender, as he has demonstrated for his national side.

“Luke has tremendous height and shape, as well as athleticism and ball control. He’s another strong personality who is consistent every day, and we believe we can establish a “This is a necessary development block for him to continue his career in the game.”
