Verstappen and Ricciardo worked together at Red Bull from 2016 until Ricciardo left for Renault at the end of 2018, with the Australian then spending time at McLaren before returning to the Red Bull stable.
While Ricciardo admitted in Singapore that his “fairy tale ending” of returning to the’senior’ Red Bull squad to partner Verstappen did not come true, PlanetF1.com understands the door has not been completely closed on him remaining in the Red Bull pool, though the Australian is thought to be undecided about the prospect of being a third driver once more.
All talk at Marina Bay pointed to Ricciardo’s final race with VCARB, with the Australian visibly distraught while addressing to media after the race.
The three-time defending World Champion, on the other hand, paid his own tribute, saying he looks forward to the day when they can reflect on their experience in the sport together when they both retire.
When asked about Ricciardo after the race in Singapore, Verstappen responded: “I mean, of course, I have to thank him for the fastest lap today!
“He’s a lovely man, honestly. You know, we have always had a terrific friendship. We had a sporting rivalry in the squad, and he will be remembered as not only a brilliant driver, but also a fantastic person.
“I think he has a fantastic personality, and I think it’s very rare that someone hates him. I also believe that in a few years, when I am no longer here, we will sit back and reflect on all of our years together while drinking a beer. He remarked on their partnership with Sky F1: “It just clicks, you know? “There is no fake person, we just get along and are easy-going.”He will undoubtedly be remembered as a very quick driver, as everyone knows, but also as a fantastic guy in the paddock.”
