Wrexham AFC has paid tribute to its oldest supporter, who died aged 100.

Arthur Massey participated in series three of Disney+’s Welcome to Wrexham, where he referred to the club as his “idol” and disclosed that he attended his first game at the age of seven in 1931.

“There were no stands, nothing, only The Turf pub,” he informed the audience.

He described himself as a “Wrexham boy through and through” and was observed arranging his 100th birthday with his family.

Daughter Julie Birrell announced her father’s death on X, formerly known as Twitter, by posting a photo of him with the caption: “14/3/24 – 8/8/24. “RIP, Dad.”

A crushed heart emoji appeared with her words.

Reposting her statement, the club stated: “Everybody at Wrexham AFC is deeply grieved to learn of the demise of life-long supporter Arthur Massey, aged 100.” “Our sympathies are with Arthur’s family and friends at this time.

“Forever a Wrexham supporter.”

Rob McElhenney from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who co-owns the Red Dragons with Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds, commented, “What a lovely man. Thank you for introducing him to the world.

 

“Love to your entire family.”

Bryan Swarberg, the producer of Welcome to Wrexham, expressed his condolences, saying, “I am extremely sad for your loss.

“His life was well lived. He was a fantastic dude.

“Love to you and the family.”

Arthur met King Charles in 2022 while visiting the pitch with Queen Camilla to commemorate Wrexham’s new city status.

The news of his passing comes as Wrexham prepare for their first League One encounter on Saturday. They was promoted in April.
