Hamilton paid respect to the ex-Red Bull driver. Lewis Hamilton has paid respect to Daniel Ricciardo after the announcement that he will be leaving the Formula One grid with immediate effect.
On Thursday, it was announced that Ricciardo would be replaced by Liam Lawson in the Visa Cash App RB (Red Bull sister team) for the remaining races in 2024.
While there has been no announcement of retirement, it is highly unlikely that Ricciardo would return to F1, with his previous performances falling short and the F1 2025 grid featuring at least three rookies.
Ricciardo’s Formula One career spans 13 years, with the Australian recording eight wins and 32 podiums, the majority of which came during his stint at Red Bull from 2014 to 2018.
Following the announcement, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and the bulk of the grid paid respect to Ricciardo on social media.Lewis Hamilton even made a full Instagram post about the 35-year-old’s career.
He wrote, “It has been an honor to compete with you throughout the years.
“I’ll never forget the fights, the laughs, or drinking out of your shoe.” It was horrible, but I’m pleased I did it with you, mate.
“You leave a legacy of always being yourself, which in this sport is never easy. You’ve taken it all with the biggest smile and I salute you for it. “There is so much more for you up ahead and I can’t wait to see what you do next. Always here for you, man,” he finished. Despite both Ricciardo and Red Bull insisting the decision to release Ricciardo was made after the Singapore GP, “It had been the plan for a long time now where this is where it was leading at least,” Lawson explained. “Obviously I had a contract date that needed to be fulfilled so basically it was going towards this way, and then a couple of weeks ago they told me what was
Something is going to happen. And then, pretty soon after, it was fixed in stone.” Following the announcement of his dismissal, Ricciardo posted a message to his Instagram followers.
“I’ve enjoyed this sport my entire life. He began, “It’s been a wild and fantastic ride.
“Thank you to all of the teams and people who participated. Thank you to the fans who sometimes enjoy the sport more than I do, hehe.
“There will always be highs and lows, but it has been enjoyable, and to be honest, I wouldn’t change a thing. “Until our next adventure.”
