The College GameDay crew is covering the Georgia (2) vs. Alabama (4) matchup. Nick Saban is the most successful coach in college football history, having won seven national titles, one with LSU in 2003 and six with Alabama. His consecutive titles in 2011 and 2012 cemented his legendary status. Under his direction, Alabama has grown into a national powerhouse, and the university now has the most active NFL players in the country (61 in total). Following Alabama, Ohio State is second with 51 active NFL players, with Georgia rounding out the top three with 45.
Tonight’s game between Alabama’s Crimson Tide (3-0) and Georgia Bulldogs (3-0) promises to be a battle of the titans, and it’s undoubtedly the most anticipated game of the season thus far.
Nick Saban Joins College GameDay to Support Roll Tide ESPN’sCollege GameDay crew, directed by Pat McAfee, has set up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to cover the game in front of Alabama’s devoted fans. During a part in which McAfee was discussing how Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will handle the Bulldogs’ offense, Nick Saban made an abrupt and unexpected intervention. Saban pounded the table, declaring that Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe will be the game’s deciding factor. “He can create tremendous problems for any defense to figure out how to stop him,” Saban remarked, confidently. McAfee’s lighthearted answer, “I thought I was gonna get smacked,” caught the moment’s unexpected aspect. Saban, known for his restrained manner, has become more animated on the show. As one fan said, “How cool is it to see Coach as a fan?” Saban appears to be fully involved in enjoying the game now that he is no longer under pressure to coach Alabama. However, given the intensity of the contest, he may experience a mix of joy and tension, as both teams are playing at a high level–this game could very well be a preview of a future playoff showdown.
Alabama and Georgia are both unbeaten going into this battle, but Alabama has yet to meet top-tier opposition. Georgia, on the other hand, tumbled from first place in the standings following a sloppy victory over Kentucky, and this game is the first of three key tests against top-10 ranked opponents. More significantly, it’s an opportunity for Georgia to exact payback for last year’s SEC Championship Game, when Alabama delivered the Bulldogs their sole loss, sabotaging what could have been a flawless season and a shot at a third consecutive national championship.
While the outcome is unknown, Alabama appears to be heading for a narrow victory over Georgia. This is shaping up as a game. Worthy of playoff consideration later in the season.
