Hurricanes’ Crucial Star Named ACC Quarterback of the Week

Coral Springs, Florida — The league office declared Monday afternoon that senior Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes was chosen as the ACC Quarterback of the Week for the third time this season.

In the Hurricanes’ ACC opener against Virginia Tech, Ward led the team to a 38-34 comeback victory, continuing his incredible start to his Miami career.

On Friday night, the 6-foot-2, 223-pound signal caller ran for 57 yards and a touchdown on the ground in addition to throwing for 342 yards and four touchdowns.

The Hurricanes overcame two 10-point deficits to win the game when Ward guided Miami to scores on its final three drives.

Since Miami entered the league prior to the 2004 season, the West Columbia, Texas native is the first quarterback in the ACC to have at least 300 passing yards and three passing touchdowns in each of their first five games.

On September 3 and September 23, Ward was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week in the past.

On October 5, the eighth-ranked Hurricanes will travel to take on Cal, a new ACC member. This will be the teams’ first encounter since 1990. ESPN’s kickoff time is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
