West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui has received plenty of criticism already since taking over at the London Stadium.
Julen Lopetegui was named as the new West Ham boss officially on July 1st, amidst huge excitement from a fanbase that was desperate for change.
However, Lopetegui has made a slow start to life at the London Stadium, with many fans criticising the team’s style of play and lack of identity.
That said, the West Ham owners allegedly believe he has the skillset needed to take us to the next level.
Saturday’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town certainly eased the pressure on the Spaniard’s shoulders somewhat.
However, questions are still be asked of the 58-year-old inside the London Stadium, with one pertaining to his treatment of one player in particular.
Julen Lopetegui’s handling of Crysencio Summerville questioned
Crysencio Summerville joined the Hammers in the summer transfer window from Leeds United for around £20 million.
After the 22-year-old moved to the London Stadium, he actually admitted that he told his father two years ago that he wanted to play for West Ham one day.
That was brilliant to hear, and I was hugely excited to see him in action for the Hammers.
However, his integration into the team has been much slower than expected.
And people inside the club are said to be perturbed at the way in which Lopetegui has decided to ease Summerville into action, according to the Athletic.
I make them right. I feel like Lopetegui missed a big trick by not throwing the Dutch winger into the team from the start.
He is an electric player who thrives on rhythm and confidence – sitting on the bench will not be doing him any good whatsoever.
Lopetegui must get the best out of Summerville
The 22-year-old winger has so much to offer West Ham on the left side of attack, what with his blistering pace.
However, Lopetegui really does need to start him more often.
That way, Mohammed Kudus can be moved into his favoured number 10 position, or out wide on the right, with Jarrod Bowen through the middle.
The Dutchman was exceptional for Leeds last season, with 21 goals and 10 assists in 49 games in all competitions to his name.
Now we need to start seeing some of that output at the London Stadium, but he needs to be given more chances to show us all what he can do.
The onus is on West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui to provide Crysencio Summerville with the platform to succeed in East London.
After the international break, I want to see the Spaniard start the former Leeds man week in, week out. Let’s see what he’s got.
