Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks was among several NBA players who sent a video message of congratulations to Caitlin Clark after the Indiana Fever star earned the WNBA Rookie of the Year award.
“Congratulations, Caitlin, on a wonderful season. Rookie of the Year is a great honor. You deserved it. “Congratulations,” Doncic said in his video message. Doncic was the unanimous choice as NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2018-19 season, receiving first-place votes on all 100 ballots. Clark almost did, but one vote went to her rival, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.
Nonetheless, it was an extraordinary season for Clark, who was skeptical that her collegiate talent would transition effectively in the pros.
Clark broke numerous records.
Among the highlights of her spectacular debut year was having the most assists in a single game and season. She was the WNBA’s fastest player to reach 300 career assists.
Clark, 22, was the youngest player in WNBA history to lead the league in assists per game. She was also the first player to lead the league in both assists and three-pointers made. Clark is also the first rookie to record a triple-double (19 points, 13 assists, and 12 rebounds) in a July 6 victory over the New York Liberty. She concluded the season with two triple-doubles, another first for a WNBA player.

2006 NBA Rookie of the Year Offers Advice to Caitlin Clark
San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul, the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2006, congratulated Clark in an Instagram video message.
“Congrats! You were better than advertised this season, given all of your ridiculous expectations coming out of college,” Paul stated. The 12-time NBA All-Star also went above and beyond, offering guidance based on his own experience as Rookie of the Year winner.
“First of all, that’s a huge achievement, and you should be proud,” he said. “But moving forward, I believe the most important thing I tried to focus on was getting stronger. I wanted to become stronger. I wanted to get faster. I wanted to improve on defense. But, above all, I want to tell you about the most important people in my life: my family and my support system. “That was always a group that helped me stay grounded.”
