The detail might mean everything for Red Bull. A Red Bull Racing executive has stated that Max Verstappen’s contract contains a secret clause that may change everything.
With six grand prix weekends remaining, Verstappen appears to be on track to win the 2024 Formula One Driver’s Championship, leading second-placed Lando Norris by 52 points.
Verstappen will win the 2024 championship for the fourth time in a row, continuing his dominance of the sport.
However, a secret feature in his deal with Red Bull has been disclosed, which could have a significant impact on the sport’s future.
According to Helmut Marko, director of Red Bull Formula One teams and head of driver development, Verstappen’s contract includes a release clause, which has raised concerns among team management.
“The danger is there,” Marko told sport.de.
“Max is not the sort to break [Michael] Schumacher or Lewis Hamilton’s records. When he gets in the car, he wants to win. But the surroundings must be appropriate. If the whole business no longer appeals to him, you may anticipate him to exclaim, one day, “That’s it!”
“Most top drivers have leave clauses based on performance. Max has one, too. This means that if we can’t supply him with an automobile that allows him to drive in the front,
That is definitely something he will consider.” The news may concern Red Bull supporters, since Verstappen has recently been linked with a move away from the team, with speculations circulating that he was considering a move to Mercedes or Aston Martin.
And, after losing famed Formula One designer Adrian Newey last month, possibly losing their top driver might be disastrous for Red Bull. Verstappen has clearly been dissatisfied with the team’s performance in recent months, since despite winning seven of the first ten races of the season, he has not to win another race since the Spanish Grand Prix on June 23.
“I’ve been stating for weeks that we need to get more performance into our automobile and everyone
“Everyone in the team is aware of this,” Verstappen admitted following the Spanish Grand Prix. “So far, it appears that everyone around us is providing more updates than we do.
