Chris Powell, Sheffield Wednesday’s coach, claims to have a ‘unique vantage point’ on games.
Powell has become a popular character at Hillsborough since joining Danny Röhl’s squad a year ago, playing an important role in their great escape while also building a strong bond with the Wednesday fans. He’s become so popular that people notice when he’s not present, and for observant fans who may have noticed that he’s not constantly on the bench alongside Röhl and his other staff members, there’s a perfectly reasonable rationale.
In the most recent episode of our ‘All Wednesday’ TV show, the assistant coach spoke glowingly about his relationship with the supporters at S6 also discussed his new location. He told AW, “With Coventry, I don’t live too far from there because I’m in the Midlands, and all of their fans, bar none, said, ‘They’re the best set of fans that have been here for a long time.'” I’ve got a new perspective now; I watch a lot of the game upstairs during the first half because we have set pieces, coaches, and a lot of staff, so I go up there but then come down.
“The people are honest, upfront and kind… People are in a rush in London, it’s a fast city, in Sheffield people take time to speak – they’ve got time for you.”
A lovely part of my Chris Powell chat – speaking about #SWFC and #SUFC fans.

“And I’ll peek over in the corner and be like, ‘Wow’. It’s fantastic to play in front of those fans, both at home and away. I am aware that many other teams would love to have what we have.
