Following Georgia’s 30-15 victory over Texas, coach Kirby Smart addressed ESPN and the officials. Georgia took an early lead and fought off a second-half comeback attempt by Texas. The game became heated when a questionable pass interference penalty sparked indignation in the Longhorns crowd, with disgruntled fans tossing debris onto the field.
After the game, Smart expressed irritation with the officials and chastised ESPN’s commentators for doubting his team. Every panelist on “College GameDay” predicted Texas to win the top-five matchup. “No one gave us a chance. “Your entire network doubted us,” Smart stated during his on-field interview. “Nobody believed us, and then they tried to rob us with calls, in this place.” Kurt Herbstreit
At the end of the program, Chris Fowler and I had a good laugh at Smart’s rant. Herbstreit also stated that he had not made a decision before the game. “I didn’t make a pick but I believe everybody on ‘College GameDay’ picked Texas,” Herbstreit shared. “It was all week talking about Texas.” Herbstreit also lauded Georgia for their remarkable victory, naming them as a top contender for the national championship. “What we were reminded tonight, as a sport, is Georgia, despite what happened in Tuscaloosa, is still Georgia,” Herbstreit claimed. “They still recruit, develop, and are quite proud, yet they felt slighted. When you make a football team feel slighted, they’ll bring the fastball, which is exactly what they did. They played
They have a chip on their shoulder, and we learnt tonight that if they keep playing like that, they will be a difficult club to beat.” Georgia and Smart will get a bye week to ponder on their victory. On November 2, the Bulldogs will face Florida in an SEC game.
