BREAKING NEWS : Important Philadelphia Eagles player was arrested

Wide receiver Josh Huff was arrested Tuesday morning after police reportedly found marijuana and a gun in his vehicle following a traffic stop. On Thursday morning, the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they had released Huff.

CBS Philly‘s Trang Do reported that Huff was pulled over for speeding on the Walt Whitman Bridge.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com provided a statement on Huff’s arrest from the Delaware River Port Authority:

“Josh Huff and I spoke privately about his incident,” Eagles head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Wednesday. “It’s out of our hands at this point. It’s a legal matter right now.”

“My message was that I apologize for being a distraction to them, especially right now,” Huff said Tuesday, per Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. “We don’t need it.”

On Wednesday, when asked why he needed hollow point bullets, Huff responded, per Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal: “I can’t get into that. It’s for protection, point blank, period.”

Huff linked his status as a professional athlete to the need to own a gun, per Nick Fierro of the Morning Call: “I’m a professional athlete. What professional athlete don’t have a gun?”

“I’m from Houston,” Huff added, per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “You can’t trust a lot of people in Houston. There’s always somebody out to get to you.”

Cydney Long of NBC 10 provided a look at Huff’s warrant:

“We are aware of the incident today involving Josh Huff. At this point, we are gathering more information,” the Eagles said in a statement, per CSN Philly’s Dave Zangaro.

Huff was a third-round pick out of Oregon in 2014 and has recorded 13 receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown in 2016.

No further details regarding the case are available at this time.

The NFL bans marijuana use, so it could place Huff in its drug protocol.
