Is Caitlin Clark channeling her inner Steph Curry? It’s tough not to notice the striking similarities between the two. While Steph has been lighting up the NBA for years, Clark is now making waves right from her rookie season in the WNBA. Many have compared Clark’s long-range shooting abilities with Curry’s. In fact, Clark broke Steph’s single-season record for most threes in college back in March. But now, as she prepares for the next season, she’s already perfecting another one of the 4x NBA champion’s signature shots.
The Indiana Fever’s official X handle shared a video of the 22-year-old practicing her floaters, something Stpehen Curry has mastered. “I feel like I’m just scratching the surface,” she said, warning her opponents. “I feel like there’s just so many areas that I want to improve in and to continue to get in the gym and work on that every single day.”
And if anyone can actually master Steph’s floater, it’s Clark. Her combination of finesse and range makes her a nightmare for defenders, just like Steph on the court. Along with scoring the points, she makes sure to define what it means to be a guard.
After an incredible rookie season filled with records and accolades, like breaking the WNBA’s single-season assist record with 337 assists and being named Rookie of the Year, the WNBA star is set to shine even brighter in the upcoming season. She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the Indiana Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
About the comparisons between Clark and Curry, do you know it’s not just fans making those connections? Even the NBA star himself has weighed in on the hype.
Stephen Curry heaps praise on Caitlin Clark
Although Steph expressed that while he appreciates the chatter about their similarities, he believes those comparisons can be a bit unfair to the W star. Why? Because they often overshadow her well-rounded skill set.
In an interview with CBS Mornings, he said, “I think it almost robs her of, like, the rest of her game… she’s racking up, you know, close to triple-doubles every night.” Well, he is right; CC is way more than just a shooter. She is basically all over the court.
“Her shooting ability is her superpower, but the rest of her game is as polished as that.” Coming from one of the greatest shooters of all time, that’s high praise. But the young star did prove this season that her playmaking, court vision, and basketball IQ make her must-see TV.
So, the comparisons between them are totally inevitable, but Clark is making a name for herself. Along with securing a place in the 2024 All-WNBA First Team, the first rookie to make it to the list since Candace Parker, she continues to prove her skillset. As she heads to the next season, she plans to blaze her own trail while following Steph’s footsteps.
