ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves hired Tim Hyers as hitting coach on Thursday, following a shake-up in manager Brian Snitker’s staff.
The 53-year-old Hyers joins the Braves after spending the previous three seasons in the same role with the Texas Rangers, where he was a part of the team’s World Series victory in 2023.
Hyers succeeds Kevin Seitzer, who was one of three coaches fired by Atlanta shortly after an injury-plagued season concluded with a two-game sweep by the San Diego Padres in the NL Wild Card Series. Seitzer worked as a hitting coach for ten years. The Braves fired assistant hitting coach Bobby Magallanes and catching coach Sal Fasano.
Hyers formerly worked as the Boston Red Sox’s hitting coach from 2018 to 2021, after serving as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ assistant hitting coach for two years. He has worked with a dozen Silver Slugger winners over his career.
Hyers, an Atlanta native, was a first baseman and outfielder who played 133 games in four major league seasons with San Diego, Detroit, and the Marlins.
