Tim Hyers, the Rangers hitting coach, has joined the Atlanta Braves as their hitting coach. Tim Hyers, the Texas Rangers’ hitting coach for the 2022-24 season, has joined the Atlanta Braves as their new hitting coach, the team announced today.
The Rangers had previously stated that they expected all of their major league staff to return for the 2025 season, so this does not appear to be an example of Hyers being forced out. According to the report, Hyers, an Atlanta native, will be able to spend more time with his family.

Even greater (relative) dip in performance from 2023 to 2024 than the Rangers experienced. The Braves fired their hitting coach, Kevin Seitzer, at the completion of the regular season. The Rangers hired Hyers away from the Boston Red Sox following the 2021 season. Hyers served as an assistant hitting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2016 to 2017, and then as Boston’s hitting coach from 2018 to 2021. Boston intended to bring Hyers back in 2022, but he turned it down in favor of what appeared to be a larger contract offered by the Rangers.
Donnie Ecker remains the Rangers’ offensive coordinator, and the team will most likely hire a hitting coach to work with Ecker and replace Hyers. I understand that some Rangers fans will regard Hyers’ departure as a good thing for the club, but I’m not sure that’s the case.
