Southampton currently faces a number of uncertainties, ranging from a probable management change to a relegation battle in the second half of the season. Russell Martin’s side remains nineteenth in the league and must swiftly turn things around in the Premier League to avoid relegation.
However, they have two major issues: their defensive methods and their erratic goal-scoring. While the former can be remedied by avoiding occasional defensive mistakes, Russell Martin’s team must consistently reach the back of the net many times throughout the game. As a result, the Saints need their front three to find their most prolific form, which has yet to happen.
The 17-goal Premier League striker might join Southampton in January.
Tyler Dibling has shown tremendous potential in the previous five matches, but he now needs to improve his finishing while advancing near the box. Cameron Archer is Southampton’s most promising striker right now, and the club may take advantage of the 22-year-old’s versatility by bringing in an experienced Premier League goalscorer.
Furthermore, Southampton might recruit a high-quality centre forward in January, since Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford is available for transfer. Bamford established himself in the Premier League, scoring 17 goals during the 2020/21 season. The 31-year-old was the sixth highest-scoring Premier League player that season, and other teams such
Everton and Newcastle United were interested in signing him as well. Although Bamford remained with Leeds United, he scored six Premier League goals for the Championship club over the next two seasons before being relegated in 2023. Bamford’s inconsistency in recent seasons has been largely due to numerous injuries; but, if he can stay injury-free throughout the season, he should be able to score around fifteen goals again.
Compared to current Southampton strikers Adam Armstrong and Ben Brereton Diaz, Bamford makes a lot of good runs inside the box, and his positioning and heading ability are among his greatest assets as a striker. Furthermore, Bamford prospered in the 2020/21 season, when Leeds United depended on giving more passes and long Through balls near the box’s edge. Dibling and Archer are excellent playmakers, providing Bamford with numerous opportunities to score league goals. Furthermore, Leeds United are rumored to be interested in loaning out Bamford for six months in January, and it remains to be seen whether Southampton would sign the proven Premier League goalscorer.
