Nottingham Forest have a handful of players whose contracts will expire in the summer of 2025. As the January transfer window approaches, Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has once again been linked with a move.
Roma and AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing the Liverpool full-back. According to reports from Italy, Aina would be a “popular” transfer option for both clubs, given his contract with Forest expires in the summer. Aina isn’t the only Reds player who will become a free agent at the conclusion of the season, as things stand. Below, we share our thoughts on the future of those players whose contracts expire in 2025.
Ola Aina.
Only last month did it emerge that Forest were interested in signing the Nigeria international to a long-term contract. The latest round of transfer rumors should serve as a motivation to get it done. Aina has emerged as a vital performer for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team. A solid back four has contributed to a strong start to the season, and the 28-year-old has played a role in it. The verdict: A new deal.
Willy Boly
The Reds agreed to a new one-year contract with the defender in the summer. However, they have the option to extend those terms by another 12 months, keeping him at the City Ground until 2026.
Boly is currently out of the starting XI and faces a difficult task in regaining his place as Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo have formed a strong relationship. He is still a strong presence in the locker room and a solid choice to have. The verdict is out.
Harry Toffolo
A popular member of the squad, both among teammates and supporters, although game time is now limited. Alex Moreno, on loan from Aston Villa, has established himself as the team’s left-back. Toffolo has historically been a dependable performer when called upon. But at some time, Forest will have to make a few judgments concerning their left-back issue because they hold an option to sign.
Moreno has been hired permanently, and Omar Richards remains on the roster. Verdict: Summer is over.
Chris Wood
Not long ago, it would have been unsurprising to see the striker leave at the end of his contract. However, recent indications indicate that a new contract may be in the works.
Given Wood’s current form, maintaining his services appears to be a prudent option. He is in excellent shape, and Nuno clearly understands how to get the most out of him. The verdict: A new deal.
Alex Moreno
It is still early in the Villa man’s loan stay, but he has made a good impact thus far. He appears to have swiftly adjusted to life in Trentside and has expressed his satisfaction with the club.
As mentioned
Above, left-back is an area that Forest will undoubtedly evaluate come summer. By then, they’ll have a clearer understanding of whether signing Moreno permanently is a sensible business decision. The verdict is out.
James Ward-Prowse
On deadline day, the West Ham United loanee signed a direct loan contract. Nuno praised his set-piece abilities and the experience he has given to the team.
There is no denying Ward-Prowse is a talented player, but he has yet to make an impact in the Garibaldi. Nonetheless, he has assured Nuno has some solid midfield alternatives, especially with Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare out.Final verdict: summer is over.
Jonathan Panzo
Currently on a season-long loan at Rio Ave, another Evangelos Marinakis-owned team. Trentside’s future as a defender is uncertain.
Panzo, at 23, is still reasonably young, but he needs to play more often. That seems unlikely at Forest, considering he has only appeared once for the Reds since signing in January 2022. Final verdict: summer is over.
