Tennai Watson, a Charlton Athletic defender, suffered an injury against Wrexham during the weekend, according to the club’s official website.
Charlton Athletic were forced to replace the full-back during their match at The Valley on Saturday. They drew 2-2 against the Red Dragons in League One, with to goals from Macaulay Gillesphey and Matt Godden. Watson, 27, will now need to be monitored by the Addicks as they prepare for forthcoming games. They face Chelsea Under-21s in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy this evening before taking on Southend United away in the FA Cup this weekend.
Meanwhile, they have a few injury worries to address. Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones, and Daniel Kanu are still missing from their website’s most recent update. However, striker Gassan Ahadme has resumed training. Charlton Athletic signed Watson in 2023 on a two-year contract.
His contract with the London club expires next summer, and they must make a huge choice about his long-term future in the interim. The Hillingdon native was brought in by the Addicks to give competition and depth to their defensive lineup.
Watson has made 47 appearances for his current club in all competitions, including seven this season.
Prior to joining Charlton Athletic, he progressed through Reading’s academy systems, playing nine first-team games as a youngster while also on loan at AFC Wimbledon and Coventry City.
He then permanently left the Royals and spent two years with MK Dons before joining the Addicks.
What happens now?
At this point, it’s unclear how long Watson will be out of action.
Nathan Jones’ side is currently in 11th place in the table, three points behind the play-offs after drawing with Wrexham. Charlton Athletic have a number of cup games coming up before their next league encounter against Exeter City away on November 9th.
