BREAKING NEWS : Russell Martin sack update as Southampton face £12m payout

Southampton will not be deterred from sacking under-fire manager Russell Martin for compensation, according to Football Insider sources. The south coast club is bottom of the Premier League after losing a critical six-pointer at Wolves on Saturday (9 November).

According to the Southern Daily Echo (23 October), replacing Martin with a new boss will cost approximately £12 million.

The Scot was offered a new contract at St Mary’s Stadium in the off-season after leading Southampton to the play-offs.

According to sources, while the payoff would be detrimental to the club’s finances, the final number will not deter bosses from opting to fire Martin.Southampton manager Russell Martin bites back at pundits | Daily Echo

A change at the top is expected if poor results persist and fans turn against the 38-year-old manager. The Saints’ only Premier League win this season came against Everton earlier this month, and they also drew with Ipswich in September.

The south coast team blew late leads at home against the Tractor Boys and Leicester, resulting in important points.

Martin’s team will now face Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Tottenham in their next five league games.
