O’Neil’s future at Molineux is under threat following the club’s terrible start to the season, which has seen them win just once in the Premier League and have the worst defensive record in the division. Wolves’ emphasis is on bringing in someone who can strengthen the team and make it difficult to beat at the end of the season, ensuring Premier League safety.
Wolves are presently 19th in the Premier League rankings, just two points behind 17th. Wolves will aim to sign an experienced manager if Gary O’Neil is fired.
The club is unlikely to choose a “forward-thinking” manager to replace O’Neil because of the risks involved if the decision fails.
Potter or Moyes, rather than being a progressive manager, are thought to have the ability to divide opinion owing to the kind of football they bring. Wolves defeated Southampton last Saturday (9 November) to go into the international break with their first win of the season, relieving some pressure on O’Neil.
The club returns to action on Saturday (November 23), when they face Fulham.
