Why BARNSLEY head coach expressed disappointment after a 1-1 draw against Cambridge United

BARNSLEY head coach Darrell Clarke expressed disappointment with the addition of only two minutes of added time in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at League One strugglers Cambridge United, believing the period was too short given what he perceived to be time-wasting tactics from U’s keeper Jack Stevens.
Stevens, who made his first league appearance for the club since mid-March, frustrated Clarke by making one or two key saves to deny dominant Barnsley and his slow approach from restarts. Cambridge dug in throughout the second half as Barnsley sought for the winner, and they held out. The prospect of only two minutes of stoppage time was sure to have pleased the U’s, especially given that Barnsley, along with Bolton Wanderers, has scored the joint-highest number of League One goals in the final quarter of games since the 76th minute. Clarke, whose fifth-placed side faces Wigan Athletic on Saturday, said: “I was disappointed that I only got two minutes of injury time.”

“We need to have a look at that because we got told in meetings in the summer that was going to be stopped.”We’re here to put on an entertaining sport, and the goalie told ages every time he had the ball, slowing down the game, and the referee did nothing about it, which was frustrating. “It was a frustrated changing room, which is a good sign since the performance deserved to win, but you have to finish your chances, and we’ll work on it and improve. We had a lot of entries and opportunities in the box.”
