Brandon Powell, a Blackburn Rovers defender, has joined Chorley on loan, according to the club’s official website.
Blackburn Rovers have allowed the full-back to leave on a temporary basis to gain experience. He has joined the National League North side for one month and will return to Ewood Park at the end of December.
Powell, 19, has been a regular for Rovers’ U21s this season, under coach Mike Sheron. He will now be keen to put his skills to the test in the sixth tier in order to advance.
Chorley manager Andy Preece told their website: “Brandon is another young youngster who has caught our attention this season. He is the type of player who will fit in very well with our team.
“Blackburn produces many interesting young athletes, and Brandon is one of them. We want to help him grow further, and we thank everyone at Blackburn for enabling him to come to Chorley.
Blackburn Rovers’ loan exit
Powell will want to acquire as much game time as possible with Chorley over the next four weeks.
They are currently at the top of the table, ahead of Scunthorpe United and Curzon Ashton, as they aim to gain promotion to the National League.
He will increase the non-league team’s defense competition and depth.
After spending time in Manchester City’s academy, he joined Blackburn Rovers in 2016.
The Huddersfield native has since progressed through the ranks of the Lancashire club.
He started with the U18s before moving up to the U23s.
Powell has yet to make a senior appearance with Blackburn Rovers, but he hopes to do so in the future.
He has been loaned out for the first time in his career, and now he has the opportunity to demonstrate his abilities.
What happens now?
When he returns to Blackburn Rovers later this winter, the club will have to decide what to do with him next.
Meanwhile, John Eustace’s side hopes to qualify for the second-tier play-offs.
They are currently in 10th place in the league, five points behind the top six, as they prepare for a tough away trip to Middlesbrough tonight.
