Wrexham are hoping to add another striker in January, as one forward has left STōK Cae Ras on transfer deadline day.
Wrexham are second in League One following only three defeats in their first 17 games of the season.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson is aiming for a third consecutive promotion, and January investment might be critical.
Wycombe Wanderers ace Jack Grimmer anticipates potentially ‘obscene’ spending from Wrexham in January in their attempt to return to the top flight.
According to reports, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds plan to spend money on a new striker, with Wrexham looking for a Championship-level goalscorer.
That could help Wrexham get over the line, but one loaned-out striker is simply unstoppable right now.
Dundee United manager on Sam Dalby deal
On deadline day, Wrexham signed Modou Faal, and Phil Parkinson loaned away three forwards, including Sam Dalby.
Dalby signed a season-long loan with Dundee United, bringing his Wrexham contract to an end. Steven Fletcher was delighted to see Dalby transfer to Scotland, and the striker is clearly making the most of his opportunity.
Dalby has now scored five goals in his previous six games, including a goal at Ibrox against Rangers last Saturday.
Wrexham are unlikely to offer Dalby a new contract, but his performance at Tannadice will have raised some eyebrows.
Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has now commented on Dalby’s future, with fans hoping he would stay.
Speaking with The Courier, Goodwin acknowledged that he would like to sign Dalby permanently and keep him at Dundee United for a long period.
Goodwin has spoken with Dalby’s agent about a potential transfer and believes the striker is ideal for Scottish football.
Goodwin said that he is unsure if Wrexham have a plan for Dalby’s future, but believes players like him are ‘rare to find’.
“Sam is a player that we really like, and we would love to enter into negotiations about extending his time here at United because he’s coming out of contract at Wrexham in the summer,” according to Goodwin.
“Sam has done all I anticipated of him, and he loves it here. I spoke with his agent after the game on Saturday, and he is really positive about the overall setup here at Dundee United, which is fantastic. Five goals in six games is an excellent return for someone who had to be patient in the beginning. I believe he has more to come. He’s at a wonderful age, and the Scottish game suits him well.
“I’m not sure what Wrexham’s long-term ambitions are for Sam, but from our standpoint, I couldn’t be happier with what he’s accomplished. The only issue with Sam is that, as much as we admire the work he’s doing, I’m pretty confident there’ll be tons more
Other individuals are taking notice.
“Number nines like that are hard to come by these days; they can hold the ball up, lead the line, have quick feet, and have an eye for goal. “I’m not stupid enough to believe that there wouldn’t be other teams looking at him as well – teams with bigger pockets than us,” he continued. Sam Dalby discusses his future
Wrexham are looking for a striker, and Dalby is currently in peak form.
This has fuelled speculation that Wrexham may recall Dalby in January to bolster Parkinson’s options.
That seems improbable; Parkinson was glad for Dalby to go because he was well down the Wrexham pecking order.
Parkinson certainly hasn’t altered.
His mind is right now, especially with new addition Jon Dadi Bodvarsson joining the offensive ranks.
Add in Wrexham’s plans to sign another striker, and Dalby appears to be expecting little in return. Dalby stated earlier this week that he intends to remain with Dundee United at least until the end of the season, ruling out a January return and likely ending his Wrexham career in the process.
