JUST IN : Newcastle United now ready to sell 34-year-old ahead of busy January transfer window

Newcastle United are planning for a January transfer window clearout.

The Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules have plagued the Magpies in recent years, and they have felt the full brunt of this over the last year, with no permanent first-team acquisitions.

Newcastle came within hours of a points deduction because of it in July, and as a result, they were forced to sell crucial assets Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, the latter failing to make a single game for Eddie Howe’s side before heading to Brighton.

The impact has been considerable, and it should be viewed as a catalyst for Newcastle’s wobbly start to the season, as exemplified by Saturday’s draw with fellow strugglers Crystal Palace.

Now, as Newcastle looks to the future, some players are being moved aside to make room for the new guard.

Newcastle United is set to sell Kieran Trippier in January.
Kieran Trippier has seen little action in the Premier League this season. After missing time due to injury, the 34-year-old has fallen behind Tino Livramento in recent months as the youthful full-back gains experience and seems more promise.Yankuba Minteh in action for Brighton & Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium Stock Photo - Alamy

Livramento’s impressive form has earned him his first call-up to the England squad, as well as his international debut.

Trippier was Howe’s highest assist maker last season, with 11 in 39 appearances, but ongoing injury issues and a £120k-a-week salary suggest the former England international might be moved on in January.

According to Football Insider, the Magpies are now ready to cash in on Trippier, who has a year and a half remaining on his current contract. Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and AC Milan are reportedly interested in signing him.

Miguel Almiron might join Kieran Trippier at the door.
If Trippier departs in January, he may not be alone. According to reports from last week, Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron will be allowed to leave the club in January after falling out of favour with the first team.

The 30-year-old has only played 103 Premier League minutes this season as Howe continues to experiment with Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon, and Joelinton on the right side of the attack.

The Paraguayan International was linked with a move to the MLS this summer, but the price was not right. Almiron is currently connected with an unknown team in the Saudi Pro League, with his departure appearing increasingly imminent.

Newcastle are looking to invest inThe forthcoming transfer window, with Bryan Mbuemo a priority target for Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell.
