Pompey is waiting to see if their problematic strike options have been further diminished.
John Mousinho has already lost Kusini Yengi for an indeterminate amount of time while the Blues await scan findings for a knee ailment, while Colby Bishop has only recently returned from heart surgery.
Their medical staff must now assess the degree of Mark O’Mahony’s hip injury, which prompted him to leave Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Swansea. The Brighton loanee replaced Colby Bishop in the 55th minute, just after Luke Williams’ team had recovered from a 2-0 deficit.
Unfortunately, O’Mahony only lasted 12 minutes before being forced to leave the field due to a hip injury he sustained twice.
He was replaced in the 67th minute by Christian Saydee, who then squandered a fantastic late chance to win it for Pompey by failing to pounce on Connor Ogilvie’s left-wing cross.
The Blues must now await the outcome of O’Mahony’s hip issue over the next several days.
Mousinho told The News: ‘I don’t know how awful it is right now. Mark didn’t look fantastic, but I don’t believe it’s that horrible. It’s merely a slap on the hip.
‘He wasn’t moving very well, and there was ice on his hip once he got off. I didn’t really get to see how he was after the game.
So that was a frustrating one.
Meanwhile, Bishop received his first start since the last day of their League One title-winning season at Lincoln in April.
It marked the next step in his first-team comeback after coming on as a substitute and scoring in the final 12 minutes of Preston’s 3-1 victory earlier this month.
Mousinho remarked, “Colby is fine.” We pulled him off because he was exhausted; it was his first start in seven months.
‘I thought he played quite well; he was a terror up top with his physical threat, pressed hard, and only grew tired after halftime.
‘I was quite impressed with Colby’s performance in his first start back.’
