DONE DEAL : New York Mets announces the signing of another 21-year-old to team

According to Will Sammon of the Athletic, the Mets have re-signed outfielder Alex Ramírez to a minor league contract. It’s uncertain whether the 21-year-old will receive a non-roster invitation to MLB Spring Training.

Ramírez returns to the only organization where he has played his whole career. The right-handed outfielder was the highlight of New York’s international signing class in 2019. New York signed him out of the Dominican Republic for slightly more than $2 million. As a youth, Ramírez performed well in the low minors. Baseball America put him among the club’s top five prospects for 2023, although BA and MLB Pipeline ranked him toward the bottom of their overall Top 100 rankings.

Two years of mediocre minor league performance have reduced his prospect value. at 2023, Ramírez had a.221/.310/.317 batting line at High-A. Nevertheless, the Mets added him to their 40-man roster to keep him out of the Rule 5 draft. Ramírez maintained his 40-man roster, but had another unsuccessful season in the minors. He hit.210/.291/.299 with five home runs in 123 games for Double-A Binghamton. At the non-tender deadline, New York did not offer Ramírez a contract. That allowed him to enter free agency without being placed on waivers. Teams regularly try to re-sign players like Ramírez on minor league contracts, but they are free. to pursue further opportunities. Ramírez did not receive a big league contract, therefore he will remain with the Mets and focus on improving his performance in the minors.
