Man City could offer £53 million plus cash for Bruno Guimaraes – Report Pep Guardiola, a longtime admirer of star player Bruno Guimaraes, is reportedly urging Manchester City to purchase the Brazilian and bring him to the Etihad in a future transfer window.
City were linked with our great midfielder throughout the summer, but turned down the opportunity to activate his £100 million release clause, much to the satisfaction of Newcastle United fans and manager Eddie Howe.
However, a few months later, The Mail’s Craig Hope says that Guardiola wants to acquire TWO new midfielders in 2025 and has ‘insisted’ on including Guimaraes on their transfer wishlist. But there is more.
Is Nunes one to watch?
Hope suggests that a part-exchange arrangement could be ‘one to watch’.
His sources in Manchester have told him that former Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes ‘might be utilized as part of a deal’ if City sign Guimaraes. The Portuguese international was linked with Newcastle while at Sporting Lisbon, and he impressed at Molineux before joining City for £53 million last summer. A good player, yes, but no Bruno.
According to his claim, Pep ‘loves’ Bruno and had planned to make a bid in the summer, but was put off by his £100 million release clause, prompting them to buy Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from Barcelona instead.
According to the Mail, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are also on City’s shortlist, as the club seeks to reduce its reliance.
Rodri has suffered a season-ending injury, leaving a gaping hole in their midfield.
Back to Bruno, Hope writes that Paul Mitchell and Man City director Txiki Begiristain, who are reported to have a positive connection, have not had any discussions at this moment. Bruno is important to Newcastle’s objectives.
It goes without saying that Bruno is a world-class operator, a bright character, and the current club captain. We must do all in our ability to keep him at the club, even if interest from Guardiola is difficult to turn down.
The 27-year-old, who is adored on Tyneside and a starter for Brazil, has at least three years left on his current deal, which should allow Newcastle to once again demand a large fee.
For Bruno’s services.
Guimaraes has three assists in the Premier League this season, two of which came in Wednesday’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool. PSR difficulties are certainly a continuous concern on Tyneside, and some believe Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, or Alexander Isak will go at some point if we do not return to the Champions League soon.
However, Guardiola’s adoration for the player should simply serve as a reminder of Guimaraes’ world-class status, and that replacing the former Lyon star would be the most difficult undertaking.
