TalkSPORT reports that Reading great Noel Hunt is a ‘likely and obvious’ choice to succeed Ruben Selles.
The 41-year-old played over 150 games for the Royals, winning the championship in 2012.
Hunt, who is now well-known as the manager of the successful Under-21s team, which makes up the majority of the first-team roster, has worked closely with Selles and his coaching staff over the last 18 months.
Hunt served as interim manager following Paul Ince’s dismissal for five games before Selles took over.
The team was relegated to the third tier after drawing twice and losing three games.
Since then, the former Republic of Ireland international has led the Under-21s to the PL2 play-offs and the Premier League International Cup.
According to Alex Crook of TalkSPORT, “Noel Hunt is a likely and obvious candidate to replace Selles.” Has worked with many of their players as the under-23 manager and has the support of the team. Tough gig because cash will be scarce in January and they are expected to have to sell players.
Selles has agreed to join Championship strugglers Hull City and said his farewells at the Bearwood training ground.
